Ruman, Ety Khatun and Sohel Rana also won three gold medals for Bangladesh in archery at the Games.

It has been a fairy-tale year for ace archer Ruman Shana, who earned direct qualification for the Olympics with Bangladesh’s maiden medal (bronze) at the World Championship before winning three gold medals on his debut appearance at the South Asian Games.

Speaking to the media, Ruman said this was not only the best year of his career but also the best for Bangladesh archery, as the country took the gold medals at all 10 archery events at the SA Games in Nepal

Alongside Ruman, Ety Khatun and Sohel Rana also won three gold medals for Bangladesh in archery at the Games.

“This is my last international tournament of the year. It has been the best year of my 10-year career. This is also the best year for Bangladesh archery,” Ruman said.

The 24-year-old also said his focus was now squarely on the Tokyo Olympics next year.

“I have the Olympics next year. I want to work harder and participate in as many international events as I can. The Olympics is the biggest competition, and I have to prepare myself that way,” he added.

“I got nervous in the final round. The more I play, the more I will adjust to the pressure in the final, and that is what I am focusing on improving before the Olympics,” the archer further said.

Ruman also won gold at the Asia Cup World Ranking Archery Tournament Stage 3 three months ago.

National archery coach Martin Frederick said it has been a perfect year.

“It has been a long year, with the ISSF in February, World Championship in June, and Asian Archery last month. This [The SA Games] is a very nice finish to the year, with 10 out of 10. Overall, it has been a perfect year,” according to the German.
